Fragaria x ananassa is the scientific name for hybrid strawberries. They have been around since the original "accidental" cross in Europe in the 1700's. The seed that we sell are created by specialist breeders who use technology to produce this first generation hybrid called F1's.
Most F1's are called ornamentals. Some call them gourmet types. Indeed, some produce fruit with excellent flavor. Others have good fruit and ornamental flowers of pink or rose.
Seed from this group is very expensive as seed goes. We purchase fairly large quantities to get the best pricing.
